The popularity of the cave lions from Chauvet could lead us to error, but the fact is that predators are really hard to come by in cave art. In a painted universe dominated by roaming herbivores, predators are the rare exception and are often painted in hidden, isolated areas of the few caves we have found them in. They are all, of course, fascinating. It should be noted that, against popular believe, the cave lion had no mane, so there is no way to tell if the lions in Chauvet are male or female.

Most of the predators have been discovered in just one cave. They are unique.
